Pray For Wirral

The next Pray for Wirral event will be taking place in late 2012.

Here you will find some general ideas that might help you decide what you are going to do to play your part in Pray for Wirral.

If creative prayer is your thing then this site with links to 100′s of ideas might be helpful.

Prayer initiatives in other areas of the country have reported the massively positive effect their prayers have had on their local communities; of course first and foremost they place this success firmly in God’s hands but they have also been quick to point our how important it has been to let the community know that they are being prayed for by people who care for them.

Soon we will be able to offer you the opportunity to get customised ‘Pray for Wirral’ postcards, posters and flyers to deliver to your local street, estate or community letting them know that you and/or your church is praying for them and inviting a response from them if you wish. We will also be taking out a full page in the local press with similar information in the same ‘corporate’ style so that people will know that the church in Wirral is praying for them and that we are working together.

If we work together to let just 40,000 homes in Wirral (just 200 homes per Christian church in Wirral) know we are praying for them during the launch week and just 1% remember this when they need help in the future then that’s at least 400 more people who might look to us, or prayer, for the support they need.

The ‘PP’ Logo idea was inspired by a story from Luton. A single lady with a burden for her housing estate delivered postcards to every house on the estate (some 1500 homes) letting them know that wherever they saw the PP logo they were welcome to knock and ask for prayer at any time. She then displayed the logo in her car and her home. Many members of the community responded and apparently it transformed the estate.

If you would like to try this out you can download the logo and postcards to print here or get some postcards printed at a small cost by calling 0151 647 8400.

Multi-church Prayer Gatherings

Rather than invite everybody to a big event on each night of the launch week we would like to encourage you to host or attend a local gathering in your area. Your local Churches Together  group or leaders fraternal are good places to start the ball rolling. Our hope is that every church in Wirral will  join with at least one other to pray during the launch week and ideally we would like every recognised Christian church in your area to be involved.

Try www.churcheswirral.co.uk or TFH for more details of your local Churches Together group.

Prayer Triplets

Martin Dickson writes: “A couple of years ago I spent 4 weeks Roger Chilvers and Jean Wilson of the BGEA – You might be surprised to know that Roger co-wrote most of Billy Graham’s talks and Jean was Nancy Graham’s best friend. When asked where the success of Mission England lay  both immediately answered “Prayer Triplets!”. We would very much like to encourage you to read the following information and join a prayer triplet right away – if it sounds like a good idea please don’t wait!

pray prayer praying prayer hands IdeasAs Brian Mills of the EA says “Prayer Triplets has helped to bring transformation to thousands of lives all around the world.  It’s a term that has become familiar in the language of the church.

Basically a prayer triplet consists of three people  or three couples who commit to praying regularly for three of their friends each so that between them they are committed to praying for nine individuals or nine couples.  They pray for all their known needs and especially that they might become Christian.  Prayer Triplets have occurred in all walks of life and in all parts of the world.

HOW TO GET STARTED: Ask God to guide you to two friends with whom you can pray.   Decide together on the three friends each you will pray for (or three couples). Ideally these friends should be in the place where you spend most time and whom you see fairly often (college, school, work or in your locality).  Share some brief information about these, and write their names on a prayer card.   Each time you meet (we suggest weekly), pray for each of them, and pray at other times during the week also – in your prayer time, as you travel, or when you are out walking.   Agree how long to meet for and ensure that at least half the time is spent in prayer – use the rest of the time to update one another about your friends.   Pray also for each other’s needs.

As a church, house group, youth group or boiler room you might wish to encourage everyone to be in a prayer triplet.   These could meet as part of what you do when you are together, or informally at other times.   Arrange times when all the prayer groups meet together (maybe over a meal) to tell the stories of how God is at work, or discuss some of the difficulties they may have found along the way.   Also use the time to share some basic teaching about praying with faith and perseverance.”
